Acupressure is part of a complete system of holistic healing and health that has been used as primary medicine for thousands of years in East Asian cultures.
It involves the massage of carefully selected points in order to bring greater harmony and health to the entire system.
These points are selected based on a complete system of assessment which seeks to understand the roots of imbalance and of health for that individual person at that individual time. Assessments include the holistic health interview, the reading of radial pulse rhythms, and analysis of the fluid balance, quality, and color of the tongue.
They may also include palpation of the abdomen, individual organs, and their associated channel systems.
The channel system describes a network of physiological pathway's through which a vital force "Chi" runs, connecting the internal organs with every imaginable part of the body.
While Chi is considered a phenomenon independent from biomedical phenomena, many channels follow major nerve, arterial, and connective tissue pathways; with many points following into valleys between the connective tissues, muscles and bony structures (which also when measured have lower bioelectric resistance).
Viewed as an interconnected series of rivers throughout the human, the role of the practitioner is to identify which streams are stuck and where and which streams need to flow more in order to create health and support the individuals goals. Doing this efficiently is possible through their comprehensive assessment and reliance on thousands of years of inter-professional knowledge, which enables them to guess where these rivers may be blocked, and why; and how to best nourish their optimal and inter-harmonious flow.
